Smaller jugs purchase. Where?

After spending quite a bit time looking on the internet and faq's, I
have what probably is a easily answered question for this group.

Because of the "topping off" advice for secondary fermentation and
aging, where can one purchase jugs of various small sizes such as 4
liter, Imperial gallon, 5 liter, 6 liter, ... up through 2.5 US gallon?
Even using marbles, it would be nice to get close to the size needed.

Any help or ideas would be super!!

Thanks,

Tom Holmdahl

Standard jugs in homebrew shops in this country are 1/2 gallon, 1 gallon,
2.8 gallon, 3 gallon, 5 gallon, ... which doesn't help you much.

However, wine and other beverages are sold in a variety of intermediate
sizes. Some grape juice is still sold in 1.5 litre jugs. Wine is sold in 1.5
litre wine bottles, and 3-litre and 4-litre "jugs". I haven't seen any other
sizes, but they are probably out there.

Presque Isle (www.piwine.com) sells a few of these sizes, but you could also
purchase the wine, and get the bottle as a bonus. Carlo Rossi comes in very
nice 4-litre jugs, and costs about $5 (supposedly it tastes pretty good
too).

Another good bet is to ask friends and relatives and restaurants to save
their empties for you.

As the previous poster said there are the regular sizes you can buy. But
for those odd sizes, I went to the liquor store to check out what sizes they
had, and over time I would buy a bottle or jug (imbibe and save). Other
than that talk to relatives and friends to see if they might save you a
particular size. Another option, you could check a favorite restaurant for
some bottles/jugs. Or check out your local recycling center to see if they
have some sizes you'd like. Good-luck.

Ditto to Negodki's post - Rossi's jugs are 4 liters. We drink their Sangria
in the summer months.

Also, I have bought a ton of airlocks and small "drilled" bungs to fit
standard 1.5 liter, 750ml, 375ml and 188ml bottles for topping up. They are
always handy.

Smaller jugs purchase. Where?

I also got my smaller jugs at our recycle center, and it was FREE!!
just took some time to look thru the bins and find what size, color I
wanted. plus I also got about 20 wine bottles that I needed too, just
wash and then they are ready to use again and it was all at no cost to
me.
