accuracy of hydrometer vs. refractometer???
Whenever I get a new batch of grapes, I obviously analyze immediately
after crush. But, the hydrometer brix readings are always about 1-2 points above the refractometer, probably due to the solids suspended in the must. Is it legitimate to accept the refractometer readings as accurate? |

accuracy of hydrometer vs. refractometer???
What does the hydrometer read in distilled water? That may give you an
answer. Also , the juice needs to be cleared of solids for the hydometer too. It's not like you can filter it. Putting it through a strainer is about as good as I can get, but even then, there are huge amounts of "solids", which prevent the hydrometer from floating freely. |
