25 Litre Fermenter with Tap - But NO Airlock?

Hello

I have recently bought a couple of 25 Litre Fermenters with tap and
lid:

http://www.easybrew.co.uk/product_de... 2515079b8347

When I opened them I have noticed that there is no hole in the lid for
an airlock (which I have used in smaller fermenting buckets). Is this
normal? Do I not need an airlock for a 30 bottle wine kit?

Many thanks in advance.

Yes, for roughly each part alcohol you create you create a part of
CO2, it's a lot of gas.

Maybe they expect you to leave the lid on loosely? It's not a good
plan but it's better than the top blowing off.

I have seen lids with a small rubber vent; when I buy juice they come
like that. Does your lid have that? If so, just make sure it does
not plug up and you should be OK. Otherwise I might drill a hole in
that lid and fit it with an airlock. If you have access to cork
borers they make a nice clean hole.

By "tap", do you mean "pail"?
Too bad they are in the UK or I get a couple too.

If you go to their equipment page and select
"Fermenter Spares", they sell a lid with an
"O" ring!

Get an "O" ring, drill the correct size hole,
debur the hole, and insert the "O" ring. Don't
give the *******s the satisfaction of paying
for two lids.

I hope their prices are in Euros, not Pounds!

A cheap 1" -1.5" wood bit should do the trick easily.

should be about 3 bucks at the hardware store. I wouldn't worry about an
o-ring as a rubber bung should seal just fine on it's own.

Many thanks for all your worthwhile comments! I have often found this
group helpful.

Indeed these prices ARE in pounds - given the five pound delivery
charge for all order - it makes the cost of buying two separate lids
with airlocks a . . . . . "**** take"!

Many thanks again guys.
