Ex-strainer bag fruit in the rumpot?
 

I just did a blackberry wine and the fruit still smells lush on coming
out of the primary in the strainer bag. Thought of washing it and
putting it into my rumpot. I decided not to on this occasion, and put
it in the composter as usual, but I thought I would ask......

Any of you tried using ex-strainer bag fruit in your rumpot? Good idea
or bad idea?

can't see why not... although all the fermentables are probably used up.
you may get aroma & a pale flavor in your final product but no contribution
to PA. i've been known to be wrong on many occasions, this may be one of

rumpot, Bob.....I'm not doing any fermenting in there, . You ferment
your rumpot?

I freeze my fruit pulp from the straining bag and when I have enough
(several kilo's) I make a second wine with it.

But beware most of the flvors are gone and there will be loads of tannins
left. So I just use it to make a second (small) wine with it with less
alcohol and less body but great as a summer table wine.

Leaving it to long in the rumpot will leave you with a high tannin content.

Hmmm. Don't you press the fruit or at least hand squeeze it in a strainer
bag to get the last drop out? I cann't immagine using the pulpy, yeasty
goop I have left over in my Rumpot. Maybe it is a matter of proceedure but
.... Ugggh.

Yes, I pressure the bag slightly to get the juice out. I figure if it
still smells that fab a quick wash to get the yeast ioff and it should
be reusable. Just gathering opinions :)

A.J....a rumpot is a large ceramic airtight vessel into which one
seasonally adds fruit, rum and sugar in "layers" over the course of
the year, resulting in a large quantity of lush tasting fruity rum
liqueur sometime around xmas.
