TN Freemark Abbey Cabernet Bosche 1974
Freemark Abbey Cabernet Bosche 1974 is still holding well and should
drink well for a few more years. The color still is deep scarlet with only little age showing around the rim. It has plenty of acid - much the same as for a fine Bordeaux. The tannins now are medium and resolved. It is quite typical Napa with the strong black currant and cedar typical of the best from Napa. There is a bit of oak, but not excessive. The balance is quite good. Freemark Abbey's Bosche was a very good value in the 70's. It was not as expensive as Heitz Martha's vineyard, but often nearly as good. It tended to have a bit less of the Napa eucalyptus character than Martha's, but it has plenty, at least for my taste. This wine had been properly stored by me since shortly after release. |
