TN: Lafarge Passetoutgrains, Spy Valley SB

Wednesday was pasta with a mushroom/spinach/marsala cream sauce. This
dish can go with white or red, this time I went with a light red, the
2002 Domaine Michel Lafarge Passetoutgrains. Light bodied but with
surprising (and pleasing) intensity of flavor. Concentrated, slightly
bitter black cherry and raspberry fruit, with a spicy edge. Lots of
acidic backbone. A glass the next day was a little sweeter and rounder.
B++

Last night Betsy made some Indian vegetarian dishes- a soupy dal with
tomatoes, eggplant with green peas and jalapenos, and rice with cumin,
cinnamon, and other spices. I didn't make the greatest match choice
with the 2003 Spy Valley Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough) . Citrus and
gooseberry, a capsicum edge to the finish. Rather typical Marlborough
SB that offers decent QPR at $10, but there are other NZ SBs like
Cairnbrae Stones or Babich that I prefer by a hair. B

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent
wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't
drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no
promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency

Technically this should be 2002 Domaine Michel Lafarge Bourgogne
Passetoutgrains.
