TN: ESJ, Selbach-Oster, and a Bourgueil from a new producer to me

Wednesday night I grilled tuna steak and green garlic, had with salad and the 2006 Damien Lorieux €śTuffeaux€ť Bourgueil. Still decent fruit, and still lots of tannin. A little earth/mushroom note, touch of green pepper, the tannins are too raspy to really enjoy this. B-

Thursday I had a speech in city late afternoon, and decided Id drop by Chambers Street Wines to get a couple orders. Usually I just stop outside and they bring out orders, but noticed Steve Edmunds was there pouring right at time I was picking up. So found parking and tried a few Edmunds St John wines. I wasnt taking notes, but enjoyed them all (I didnt try the rose, as Ive already tried couple times, and was actually in one of orders). The 2016 Heart of Gold was delicious, good acids and bright fruit. The 2015 Gamay was tasty, a little more fleshy than I remember other vintages. Steve said the 2015 was the last Rocks and Gravel, he lost the Unti fruit source, sad because this is delicious, all red fruity and herby. The 2013 North Canyon Syrah is a new addition, Barsotti joining Fenaughty, tasty & blackfruited but all about structure right now (I bought, but will tuck away for a while). Good to see Steve.

Got home, walked dog, and made a quick dinner of ramen with fishballs and watercress. Wine was the 2015 Selbach-Oster Ur-Alte Reben Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Feinherb. I realize I really need to buy more Feinherb/halbtrocken. This has noticable sweetness, but under the pretty apple and tropical fruit theres a flinty mineral core. Big, long, fun. A-/B+

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice.Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
