Default Ramey Chardonnay Russian River and Georges Reynaud Crozes Hermitage

2012 Ramey Chardonnay Russian River Valley ****

Very nice California chardonnay fix , which is hard to come by in Denmark. It has a lot of flavour as my wife said. some buttery creaminess, nutty, apricot. I was hoping for a cheaper kistler les noisetiers, as the store manager promised, but it is a bit lighter and more normal taste notes. Id place it between Raymond Vineyard & Cellar Chardonnay and kistler les nois.
The bottle design is obviously inspired by burgundy.

2011 Domaine les Bruyeres Georges Reynaud ****

Wow this is such an experience. The store that doesnt have my fav. cornas (courbis) anymore recommended I should try this as it has the same gravel and smoky components as I liked in courbis, while their other cornas (delas) wouldnt be my style. I've only had cheap crozes hermitage before that were horrible, so I was skeptical but gave it a go. its almost black in the glass. It is biodynamic and unfiltered. It first I thought it was very powerful black fruits, and a bit too acidic, so I was a bit disappointed that it wasnt that much like the cornas, but then again it had the right smoky and stony qualities. And the Cornas was 7 years older - maybe the fruit and acidity will mellow a lot , leaving more room for the smoke, cigar, and stones.
But there was something else going on. a fatness and salty overtone I couldnt pinpoint until I told my wife I had bought olives. The wine has a heavy taste of olives! I never had a wine like this. It renews my sense of adventure in finding new wines. There's still tastes out there I havent tried. There might still be a burgundy out there that blows my socks off.
The lamb burgers with blue cheese mellowed the acid down a lot.
My wife couldnt drink it , "this is just too wierd", she said, and grabbed a beer, even though she loves olives.
The label is beautiful in exactly my colours, black with accents of gold and red (like BV clone 4).

You should look for the wines of Walter Hansel although they might not
have made it to Denmark.Graham

Actually they have found their way here. Which ones did you have in mind?

I have and have tried all the PNs and Chardonnays but not the SB.
The others are fabulous value and if the SB is of the same standard, it
too will be excellent.
His "burgundies" are often difficult to find here (Calgary) because they
tend to sell out quickly on arrival.
