Default Evangile and a Savigny

Chateau L'Evangile, Pommerol, 1990
Clearly a wine I cannot afford these days, but oh so lovely right now,
with all the typical cedar-tobacco and spice aromas you'd expect along
with a marked florality on the nose. Very smooth and well-balanced, it
is the balance that is so striking: all elegance and nothing out of
place. Of course, there is also the sweet laether, cinnamon, plums and
later on some smoky light tar or cigarette ash, along with a lifting
floral quality. The grip on the end seems at odds with the color
(quite a bit of brick-PX sherry), but says this is still youthful and
can certainly be cellared, at least lasting for 5-6 more years. Very
good. About a 92 for me.

Chandon de Brialles, Savigny-les-Beaune, 'les Lavieres', 2000 Light,
almost rosé colored. Light strawberry and lightly sweetened cherry
Koolaid® with a little bit of toast. Not a lot of stuffing but very
pure in feeling. A pinot for gamay lovers. B+/87

thanks for notes.

'90 Pomerols, hard to go wrong!

Do you have much Chandon-de-Briailles experience? Not a producer I've tried
much of, but I've been very impressed with the couple I've tried. And reading
Claude Kolm's notes on the 2002s make them sound like worth searching out.

best,
Dale
