TN: Riesling and Rose
Sunday I made a seared tuna Nicoise salad, plus sauteed purslane (I don’t normally do greens if salad is main course, but needed to be used). 2011 les Fouques “La Londe” (Cotes du Provence) rose. Cherry and raspberry, hints of herb, fennel, and earth. Very nice rose, but not for my tastes any better than their basic rose. Good match, though. B/B+
Monday I was cooking again, this time a stirfry with tofu, shiitake, noodles, garlic scapes, etc. as well as a arugula/tomato/mozzarella salad. The 1997 Reinhold Haart Piesporter Goldtröpfchen Riesling Kabinett did well with the stirfry. Medium bodied, nicely balanced, floral nose, white nectarine and Rainier cherry fruit on palate, just a touch of petrol on the nice slatey finish. Pretty and a pointe. B+
Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
