Default Tablas Creek & Martinelli

With smoked port ribs this weekend I opened:
2005 Martinelli Jackass Hill Zinfandel- a whopping 17%+ alcohol on the
label was not evident in the nose or on the palate. Reddish purple in
the glass with a briary nose of cherries and blackberries. Very
smooth on the palate with a bit of tannins still hanging on the
finish. No heat from the alcohol and fairly ripe flavors of berries,
sage and black pepper. Nicely done. B+

2009 Tablas Creek Esprit de Beaucastel-Nice aroma of crushed berries,
cassis a bit of smoke and black dirt. Rich red fruit flavors a little
spice and typical Rhonish iron and beef blood on the finish. B+
