Two points:

1. Although I personally like sake with sushi, most Japanese consider
it be very inappropriate. It's having rice with rice. So have it with
sushi if you like to, but realize that it's certainly *not* "an
integral part of the sushi experience." The standard drinks with sushi
are beer (carbonated beer) and tea.

2. Sake is not a "rice wine." Wine is made from grapes, and by
extension, from other fruits. Because Sake is made from a grain,
rather than a fruit, it's a *beer* (albeit an uncarbonated one),
rather than a wine.

I quite like cold sake as a pre-meal drink for sushi but I *do not* like
drinking it with the meal. I only drink green tea or dry Japanese beers
(excluding sake) with it and I refuse to be told that sake is part of
the experience.
