TN: Nice Campania, ok pink and Godello, and a good Burg maybe goingover the edge
After working all day at a meeting Sunday, I marinated chicken in a kecap manis/ginger sauce, grilled and had with leftover greens and 2010 Chermette/Vissoux "Griottes" Beaujolais rose, Light, maybe a bit dilute, good acidity. I've liked more before, probably the food, should have gone for a beefier rose. B/B- for me this night.
Monday I did farfalle in a mushroom sauce (a little pancetta cheat on meatless Monday), with the 2007 Apicella " Tramonti" Costa d'Amalfi. I've been trying to try more Southern/Central Italians. Rare for me to buy a handsell from someone I don't know (Garnet in this case), but I liked this. Believe I was told a blend of indigenous grapes including Piedrosso, but label says Tintore and Per Palummo. Fresh red fruit, crunchy cranberriness, good acids, some tannins, but smooth (without impression of glossiness). I'll buy this again. B+ Tuesday I grilled some littlenecks and doused with a garlic sauce, Betsy used on pasta and we had with the 2009 Terre de Lobo Godello. Good acids, light, a hint of almond that reminds me more of Italian whites than Spanish. Clear and fresh, but not a lot of there there. B- Wednesday she roasted chicken and brussels sprouts, we had with rice w/furikake and the 2005 F & D Clair "Les Murgers des Dents de Chiens" Saint-Aubin 1er. I really liked this wine on release. This still has some solid pear fruit and a hint of hazelnut, but there is just the hint of some oxidative notes, and the wine seems much shorter than I remember. I'm thinking PremOx is tiptoeing in. For now, B- Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency. |

It also got a 17/20 at a recent tasting of one of the leading newspapers in Spain. And it is very cheap (around 5 euro). s. |

@mid.individual.net: > I'll try and find it... Mike, if you have a connection in Spain (which I think you have), you can phone the winery and get a case put in any Spanish address for very little money (12 bottles for 70 euros or so, including VAT and shipping). Your post about Barrejats also caught my eye. Will look for it in the future. s. |
