Default Turley Hayne vertical with barbecued ribs for 4th of July

Went through 1999, 2001, 2006, 2007 Turley Hayne vineyard Zinfandel
with mass quantities of baby back ribs cooked for the whole day.

1999 tired out quickly after opening, some dark fruit then a rosemary
like nose with a short finish. Probably just too far out for a
Zinfandel even from Turley.

2001 Dark fruits, tobacco, some other smokiness I couldn't identify,
still drinking well and nice wine

2006 Bright red fruits almost cranberry and spice, still tastes quite
young and high alcohol noted 16.5 but not tasted in wine. Integrating
well and will last another 5-7 years

2007 WOTN dark fruits, big mouthfeel and dense wine with blueberry and
cherry and black pepper in the mouth. This big boy will make 12-15
years.

With desserts Turley Port 6 bottles left of 2005. Quite nice though
not mature yet and will need a few more years to integrate.

Someone was supposed to bring Turley Petit Syrah but had a mind fart
and forgot to bring them. Brought 3 bottles of Domaine Carneros Brut
rose. Nice refreshing starters but nothing terribly special about them
but we were going with a Sonoma/Carneros day.
Fun for all with 4 couples.
Hope everyone had a great 4th.

I opened a 1999 Turley Petite Syrah on the 4th. Still a lot left.
Blackberry and cassis a slight herbal note but very smooth and
supple.

I'm the idiot who left home without the 2 bottles of 2002 Turley Petit
Syrah. Luckily, I remembered the 2001 Hayne and the Port. Don't really
know why the 1999 Hayne had faded so much. The fill was to the top.
The cork looked great and I saw the spot in my friends cellar from
where the 2 bottles came so I know it at a consistent temperature as
his cellar stays at 55º all the time.

Opened a 2000 Turley Hayne zin this past winter and it was just
starting to turn. Glad I opened it, wish I'd done it a year earlier.

Also reminded me that the Turley Old Vines zin, at a quarter the
price, was just about as good (and less heartbreaking to pour out if I
don't get to drink it before it turns).

But I was at a wine-tasting a few months ago and someone brought a 25
or 30 year old zin and it tasted very young. Wish I remembered the
brand, it wasn't one I'd have heard of.
