with friends for meatless monday- spaghetti with a tomato basil sauce,
broccoli, salad with pear/avocado/blue cheese. 2008 pieropan soave fairly big, apple and citrus fruit, flowery, a little edge of almond. Good acidity, happy to have this at $10ish b 2005 lunadoro (la bandita) vino nobile di Montepulciano big, extracted, a touch of oak, would have been better with meat, but there is a nice touch of spice and good length. dialed down a notch i would have liked better, but a nice gift from someone who just got back from area. b- 2009 ch guiot (costieres de nimes) rose* cheap closeout, doesn't seem tired, but it's a fleshy sweet style that's not my fave. c+ betsy back, she made salmon with tomatoes and tarragon, and a quinoa salad with zucchini and mushrooms. warm enough to eat outdoors, with 2007 camus-bruchon savigny les beaune. tight at first, then fairly quickly opens up, solid black cherry fruit, with a bit of citrus zest and soil tones. medium bodied, solid savigny. b * Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency. |

I'm a fan of the Pieropan especially at the retail price point. I usually drink a case through the summer months of the basic Soave. |

I tend to approve this easy way of grading wine but only if accuracy and objectivity is preserved. |
