TN: Gamay with brisket
We didn't have a seder, but we did have brisket, matzoh ball soup, and
the 2007 George Descombes Chiroubles Vieilles Vignes. I had liked this at a benefit tasting, had picked up one to find it I liked a full bottle. Sweet sappy cherry fruit, good acids, light tannins. Little notes of flower and spice, but really all about the red fruit. With time ( I nursed a glass through an episode of Foyles War) a bit of pleasant funk, and the fruit begin to take on a bit of cranberry character. Good concentration, typicity, classy glass of Gamay. I'm sure it will age, but why? B+/A- Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent*wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't*drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no*promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.** |
