Default TN: 2 Burgs, one sucks, one doesn't

OK, not my best wine weekend- dull/closed/possibly corked Bdx, nice
party but where my fave wine is a decent NZ SB, broken bottle of Zin.
Did I break the streak on Sunday night?

Dave went to Butterfly matinee with Betsy, when they got home she made
sage/soy chops for me to grill, mixed mushrooms, asparagus, and brown
rice (with a furikake tasting - comparing 3 versions, my fave was the
shiso fumi, but I enjoyed all). Seemed like a PN menu, so I decided to
open a Burg, the 2001 Potinet-Ampeau "Les Pezerolles" Pommard 1er.
Certainly '01 CdB wines are spotty, but I apparently paid $15 for this
back in the day (and I've had some good 01 CdBs, mostly Savignys, but
a few Volnays/Pommards). Hmm, not a good start. Nose of cola, soy, and
cooked cherries. Poured, light color, a little brown, clear edges.
This looks and tastes old. A little pickle juice with the cooked
cherry fruit. Actually improves quite a bit over a few hours, but
that's basically a move from D to C+ on my easy scale. I'm not sure
where I bought this (I went to CellarTracker in 2005, I did price but
not store in switch from Access to CT). Maybe heat damage, maybe just
hail damage.

But even from first sip I didn't want this to be dinner wine. I saved
to show Dave and Betsy some signs of sorry-ass wine, but opened a 375
of the 2006 Rossignol-Trapet Gevrey-Chambertin. Nice ripe fruits,
light tannins, solid acids. Tasty, sweet, and ready to go from half
bottle. B+/B

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent
wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't
drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no
promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
