TN Sassicaia Riserva 1980
Sassicaia Riserva 1980, Tenuta San Guido, was one of the first Italian
Cabernet Sauvignons to gain international reputation for very high quality, but of course there an other quality CSs made in Italy now. This bottle had been stored properly since release, had a low neck fill, and had no cork or other issues. The 1980 may not be the most famous Sassicaia made in the era from which it comes, but it still is holding very well. It is now still very well balanced with very complex taste and bouquet. The color is still fairly intense with just a touch of brick apparent around the rim. The fruit is a very complex mixture of both black an red fruit and difficult to pin down. There also is some complex mixed spice character. There is just a bit of bell pepper. Although this wine could hold for several more years, it has nothing to gain, and I likely will drink the last remaining bottle within a very few years. |
