TN: Cuvee Buster with flatfish
Quiet night at home after the holiday rush, Betsy prepared flounder
while I listened to Pete Fornatale play The Court of the Crimson King. A meuniere style presentation of the flounder, some boiled red potatoes, and some broccoli rabe. Usually with a main course like the this I go with white Burgundy, but I had the 2005 Thomas-Labaille "Les Monts Damnes -Cuvee Buster" Sancerre in my drink queue. I had seen on a link on WLDG a Joe Dressner interview where he said Buster (his dog) had died; as a dog person I had pulled this bottle to drink a toast. Big style of Sancerre, quite ripe, yet with good acidic backbone. Citrus fruits with a nice tangy edge, but plenty of sweetness. Mineral (chalk, flint) and floral notes. Does ok with the dish, but I think I've liked good Burgundy more. But the wine itself is a quite nice, although maybe not exactly textbook Sancerre. Wish I had more. A-/B+ Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent*wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't*drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no*promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.** |
