Default pre-1970 Bordeaux

Don't have the URL in front of me, but Berry Bros. & Rudd (English wine
merchants) have a historical chart that goes back to at least 19th century.
Google for their website.

Thanks Jim.

Am I the only one who is shocked that the 1847 Sauternes, despite their 10 out
of 10 rating, are showing their age?

I second Broadbent (e.g. 1980 _Great Vintage Wine Book,_ ISBN 0394510992, he
was the Christie's wine auctioneer beginning 1966 and may have about as much
experience on this subject as anyone living) and also of course Tom
Stevenson's broad book the _New Sotheby's Wine Encyclopedia,_ I posted
recommendation on amazon.com some years ago.

(In the off-chance that by "ratings" you happen to mean specifically a 0-100
point scale with statistically only 17 of its possible 101 values in
significant use, be advised that this specific type of scale is a relatively
recent development and was years away from introduction when most of the
people who have most of the experience tasting pre-1970 Bordeaux were
getting it.)
