Default Help picking French Reds

The state stores where I get my wine are having a French sale this month. I
have been drinking mostly Italian Chiantis and Barolos. I've filtered the
list of French wines to those available at the store local to me and dropped
anything below $15. Which of these have any of you enjoyed in the past?
Unfortunately, they rarely list the year...

I'll let the others opine of the bordeaux, I like the St. Joseph and think
you might like it if you like Chianti's. Good fruit, 100% (IIRC) Syrah a
really nicely crafted wine. The Mont Redon would be my pick of the CdPs

The Léoville Barton 2000 is a must buy at this price ! (If you don't mind
spending money on a few bottles).
The quotes are 96 at Parker and the cheapest price I have seen here is 75
euro (still $ 90).
The rest seems 'average prices'... compared to ours.

Which makes it almost impossible to give a decent & founded
recommendation.

Well, in these regions that makes a HUGE difference!

If any of these are 2000, I'd jump on them. Other than that, de Sales if '98. I
might go for the Talbot in '99 as an early drinker, though price isn't
spectacular

>22890 Ch Simard Red 750ml 21.99

Likely to be the '89 or '90 (late releaser). Usually competent but unexciting.
90 seems to have significant bottle variation

None very exciting, though all probably ok (I'm assuming the St. Aubin is from
Ch. de P-F, only thing that makes sense from this listing). I tend to prefer
Jadot to Latour.

I'd agree with J. Coulter these are likely to be the class of the Rhones, you
can't really go wrong with '98-'00 with either. The Offerus is Chave negociant
bottling, not as good as the estate St Joseph, but usually a nice wine.

You're right, I didn't note that the L-Barton specified 2000- that is a very
good price! I thought price was quite high otherwise (pretty easy to find '98
or '99 L-B for $40).

Even better, then I get a 20% discount off of that listed price if I end up
with a total of 12 bottles..

Thanks for the suggestions, I'm going to make my case straight from these
replies.

20% discount on LB 00 reads LB 00 at $ 51 !!! That was the price for a half
bottle here !
Incredible, this LB00 is hardly found here... sold out everywhere.

I think you owe me a bottle now ;-) knowing nobody coming to Belgium ??
Note: you have to cellar the bottle at least 5-10 years.

Wow, after you make your purchase, mind telling what state this is (you said
state stores, right)? If I know anyone in that state, I'll see if they pick up
a case of 2000 L-B for me!

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. I stopped by on my way
home tonight, and the 10 bottles that they have listed are already reserved
by someone who had them shipped from another store. She also claims that
they won't be getting any more...

I do my shopping at the NH State stores... Wine/Beer is usually about 33%
cheaper than in MA.

Stick with Italian wines, Spanish wines, Australian wines and US wines.
Don't buy French

Sometimes the smiley you omit is more effective.
