[TN] '04 Unti Zin
Tonight, with H1N1 ravaging our community and social circle, we hunkered
down at home, prepared some pizzas and butternut squash soup for dinner and Jean went down to the cellar for a Zin: 2004 Unti Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley nose: sappy, tarry, cedar and bright red berry fruit palate: bright acidity, medium body, solid fruit We bought this wine on a visit to the winery in '05 and tonight's performance justified that purchase. A bit lighter on its feet than Ridge's Zins, this mix of 80% Zin/20% Petite Sirah was quite appealing and true to its varietal character. It continued to develop for the next hour, becoming smokier, earthier and spicier with time. No hurries on this one, but quite appealing now.
