Default Two 2007's

I had dinner with clients last night and they chosse the wine. Not
wines I would have picked.

2007 King Estate Pinot Noir Signature Collection($54)-Medium bodied,
decently ripe pinot fruit. A bit of cola and black cherry. Lacking a
bit of acidity and a bit soft on the finish.
C+/B-

2007 Sonoma Cutrer RRR ($48)-a bit tart, austere and acidic. Fairly
light in style and lacking in fruit. Not much charm. "C-"

Usually I'm more than happy to defer wine duties to someone else even
when I'm hosting but this wasn't one of them.

The Sonoma Cutrer used to be a much more interesting wine.

I remember whe it was a darn good wine. The Russian Rivers Ranches
was the entry level wine but it was always a well priced bottle of
decent Chardonnay. FWIW, the King Estates PN wasn't bad, just very
average but it wasn't a very good QPR at $54.

King has stayed the same quality wise but the price has become
astronomical for what it is. Again was a more reasonably priced wine in
the past.

I would guess that if you liked the 2001 that the 2007 has a similar
profile. VIrtually all Pinot Noirs are dry.

That's the weirdest thing to say. If it was not dry, it most
certainly would /not/ be enjoyable. It's a PN, for grape's sake, it
should be dry!
