Remembering a discussion about Petite Syrah here a few months back
I rummaged around the cellar and found a couple bottles of 1999 Turley Petite Syrah Turley Estates. I opened a bottle to serve with coffee rubbed braised beef short ribs. The wine was inky black in the glass showing no sign of age. Fairly deep blueberry and blackberry aromas with a whiff of vanilla. Monstrous on the palate. Ripe black fruits, a bit of black pepper and espresso. Long tannic finish. This could be a wine that never really evolves much past where it is right now. There was very little sediment clinging to the inside of the bottle nor were there any "floaties"although given the color and weight I assume no fining or filtration. The wine was delicious in a savage sort of way. "A-" |
