i've got some wine making questions...

hi!

i'm new here and i'm really hoping that i could find some really nice people to help me out.

Anyway, i just wanted to learn how to make some homemade wine. I haven't purchased my equipment first since i don't really know if i have to. I read a blog about wine making kits that says i can use substitutes. but i think i want to be safe by asking someone first.

is it possible to substitute the tools? will that make any difference?

oh and those wine making kits? is it advisable for beginners to ferment the concentrated grape juice sold in the internet or is it better to start with fruit juices that you juice yourself?

thanks guys...

expect me to ask more questions.. hehe

If you can limit your wishes to (approx.) 100 liters, 200 $ should be
sufficient to buy a steel vat (necessary) and a couple of demijohns,
that is all you need.
What you really need is a suitable space (fresh, clean, water, etc), and
GRAPES! No commercial juices and all that sort of mud.

Although you might get *some* answers here, you've really come to the
wrong place to ask questions about winemaking. This is a wine drinking
newsgroup, not a winemaking one.

You would very likely get much better results if you would ask your
questions in rec.crafts.winemaking.

In r.f.wine, you are more likely to get anecdotes from people like me
concerning my grandfather's experiments and disasters making English
country wines.

Sorry, I'm not aware of a newsgroup called "r.f.wine." Do you mean
rec.crafts.winemaking? If so and if you are a participant there, I'll
defer to your better knowledge of it than mine. I've actually never
been there myself, and my comment above was based solely on its name.

I'm pretty sure that Jim meant here, and that the r. just crept in
unannounced.

Sorry, a mental aberration! I wish this group was rec.food.wine but it
is alt.food.wine.

OK, sorry for not guessing correctly, and therefore misunderstanding
you.

Good point. I know that the rules for creating newsgroups in the
"official" hierarchies are complex, but - if they are anything like
the French ones, they aren't impossibly so. Given that a.f.w. has
existed perfectly peacefully for a number of years, but that ever
increasing numbers of news servers are dropping the entire alt
hierarchy, or considering it, does anyone think that it might be
worthwhile starting the process off?
