TN: 2002 Savennieres
Great cool weather has hit the Northeast, we had a nice dinner on the
patio- grilled shrimp tossed with avocado and chive, a slaw with red and green cabbage, green beans, and peppers, plus a couple ears of grilled fresh corn. Wine was the 2002 Domaine du Closel "La Jalousie" Savennieres. Had seen some recent notes on the Papillon, thought I'd check in on the little brother. Fairly deep golden color, I worried as I poured re oxidation, but its fine. Lemon and lanolin, waxy/wooly with a mineral finish. I really enjoy this, but Betsy doesn't (she doesn't really keep track of wines, but I'm not surprised, she seldom likes still dry Chenin- I love her anyway). Snappy acidity, good length, impressive wine that probably cost me less than $15. B+ from me (I think Betsy would give C-, so not that sorry it's last one). * Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency. * |
