Back from Burgundy
We just returned from two weeks in Burgundy...whew! I tasted a lot of
2006's and barrel tasted a bunch of 2007's. I think the 2006 vintage might be a bit under rated after the 2005 vintage but I found the wines to be well balanced with bright fruit and good acidity. Perhaps a wine to be drunk sooner than later but overall the reds were clean, fresh and spicy and the whites were quite bright and lively. as far as the 2007's go...I never seem to get much from barrel tasting and in this case most were still undergoing malo so it was even harder to get a sense of the wine. The tannins seemed well controlled and the fruit seemed ripe. Only time will tell how the wines will fair but the makers all agreed that it would be a nice bottle of wine. The 2008 vines were about two weeks behind due to cold and rainy spring but they were catching up fast given the two weeks of perfect weather than we enjoyed while visiting. |
