Default Inexpensive Barolo

While buying some Clos de los Siete (after tasting it at a friend's) I came
across a Barolo for CAN$22.30 (~US$21): 2003 Beni di Batasiolo.
Has anyone tried this? A Barolo at that price might be a bargain but
sometimes cheap means just that!

Can't help you with the '03, but my notes show I had two bottles of
the '98--drank them in '04. My comments were that the wine was
"somewhat flaccid" and "showed little fruit". Also that it was pale
(in terms of flavor not color) in comparison to another Barolo sampled
at the time.

I'm suspecting that cheap means cheap.

Thanks, Ed. I'll put it with other drink-soon wines.

Cavaollotto's Piemontese wines are generally among the least expensive.
