TN: 2005 Keller Estate Chardonnay 'Playa del Oro'
I bought this wine on the recommendation of Bill Paumen ("Redwinger") on
WLDG. Opened tonight with a dinner of grilled salmon and shrimp ravioli. nose: pineapple, apricots, minerals, citrus, subtle new oak palate: creamy, pineapple and minerals, somewhat oaky with good acidity Bill had compared this wine to a Chablis, knowing my oak-averse predilections. I can't say that I found it very Chablis-like, but it did take me back to an earlier era in CA winemaking, when Chardonnays weren't oaked to the gills and subjected to full ML. In particular, it reminded me of some mid-'80s Acacia Winery Lake Chardonnays, which is no small praise. Very enjoyable with the salmon. Mark Lipton |
