TN: 2001 Dom. de Aphillanthes 'Cuvée des Galets' Cotes du Rhone
Given the success of last night '01 CdR, Jean pulled this one from the
cellar with a dinner of leftovers. nose: slightly meaty blackberries and cassis liqueur palate: concentrated and somewhat thick on entry, low in acidity, medium-full body, blackberries, pencil lead Compared to last night Clos du Caillou CdR, this wine had much darker fruit, heavier body and lower acidity. It also seemed to me to be more about Syrah than Grenache, but once again facts get in the way: cellartracker says that it's 60/20/20 Grenache/Syrah/Mourvedre, so what do I know? ;-) Overall, I'll take last night's bottle for greater versatility with food, but I wouldn't kick this wine out of bed for eating crackers, either.
