Default TN: inexpensive '94 Bordeaux

Saturday was a no-wine night (after dinner at a Chinese place where
food is good but wines are awful, we went to a benefit concert where I
needed to speak), but Sunday was back to vino. Betsy played matinee, I
said I'd take care of dinner. I planned badly with too many dishes
that needed last minute attention, but it turned out ok. Lamb chops in
a persillade marinade, Betsy's kale from earlier served over toast
and topped with a fried egg ( a Zuni Cafe/Judy Rodgers variation),
plus I made a lima bean gratin from Jacques Papin. Wine for the lamb
was the 1994 Roc de Cambes (Cotes du Bourg). Tannins mostly resolved,
more mature than a bottle last fall, fading, but with a nice Bordeaux
core of warm dark berry and plum fruit over earth. Light cedar aromas,
a little hint of spice. Enjoyable through dinner, but fell apart by
the time I was washing dishes. B

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent
wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't
drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no
promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
