Default Selbach-Oster wines

I had lunch with Johannes Selbach this afternoon and talked about his 2006
wines. At this point in time he expects only Auslese and above wines from
this harvest. He stated that the sugar levels were the highest he has ever
seen. I was at his place in October tasting the juice and not one was below
BA level. Crop was very very small. He expects to bring me some of the wines
that have finished fermentation sometimes in March of 07. If everything
works out we will have a special public tasting of the wines. He feels that
they will all be classics. He also stated that he has left two small plots
un-harvested in hopes of obtaining some icewine this year.

Yes, I have been informed that a minor grower in Erden harvested BA from 2
plots without even doing a selection of grapes - 133 and 135 degrees
Oechsle... The cellar work this year was unusually demanding with grapes
literally bursting from ripeness and with the need to prevent fermentation
starting before the juice had settled (the 'Vorklärung').

Thanks for report, I like Selbach-Oster a lot. Too bad that I tend to
buy most Kabs and Spatlesen!
