Red cabbage ideas?
Anyone have any tried and tested red cabbage recipes to share?
Internet hasn't produced much, apart from the usual spiced/sweet and sour cabbage/apple affair, which I'm not too keen on. Any recipes that move away from that would be much appreciated. |

Fried Cabbage 1 lb. green cabbage, shredded 2 T. peanut oil 1 t. black mustard seeds (yellow in a pinch) make a mixture of: 1/4 t. EACH of: cayenne, turmeric, ground cumin, and ground coriander 1/2 t. minced garlic 1/2 t. salt (to taste) 2 T. lemon juice Heat oil to medium-high in a large skillet. Add mustard seeds. When they stop popping (about a minute), add the cabbage and stir. Add the spice mixture and keep stirring. Add the garlic and salt. Stir well for 2 minutes. Cover the skillet, lower the heat to medium, and cook about another 15 minutes, until the cabbage is done. Uncover and stir about every 5 minutes or so. Add the lemon juice, stir well, recover the skillet, and let sit for 5 minutes. Stir again, taste for seasoning (add salt, probably), and serve. |
