Vegan (alt.food.vegan) This newsgroup exists to share ideas and issues of concern among vegans. We are always happy to share our recipes- perhaps especially with omnivores who are simply curious- or even better, accomodating a vegan guest for a meal! |

Any lists of UK mainstream vegan sweets out there?
My wife has recently gone vegan having been vegetarian for over 14
years and is feeling the pinch especially with regard to sweets. We've found a number of sweets that are vegan but so far the list is pretty feeble. By mainstream I mean the sort of stuff you could buy in any supermarket or newsagents, rather than the long list of 'specialist diet' sweets available for sometimes obscene prices via specialist retaillers and 'health' food shops. So far we have established the following are vegan... Sweets Softmints (Peppermint & Spearmint) Tutti Frutti's Jelly Tots Sherbet Fountains Crisps Walkers Lites Ready Salted Walkers Lites Salt & Vinegar Flavour Walkers Pickled Onion Flavour Crisps Walkers Potato Heads Ready Salted Walkers Potato Heads Sweet BBQ Walkers Prawn Cocktail Flavour Crisps Walkers Ready Salted Crisps Walkers Salt & Shake Crisps Walkers Salt & Vinegar Flavour Crisps Doritos Extreme Chilli Heatwave Walkers French Fries Ready Salted Walkers French Fries Salt & Vinegar Flavour Walkers Quavers Prawn Cocktail Flavour Walkers Quavers Salt & Vinegar Flavour Walkers Square Ready Salted Walkers Wotsits Flamin' Hot Can anyone supplement this list or point me to a larger one? Regards, TH. |

This is actually where we got the above list from (the book not the website), trouble is that despite being the latest edition it's already out of date. For example Animal Free Shopper reports Sherbert Dip Dabs as vegan and even the Cadbury's website says they aren't. Unfortunately despite registering twice now I still cannot get into the Animal Free Shopper's online pages... Whilst it's a great resource, I don't believe for a second that there are not more mainstream sweets that are actually vegan. Regards, TH. |

To get into the afs site, check the "i read the terms and promise stuff" box. Clearly there needs to be a place on the site to report updates and errata. I would suggest this to them. |

Pringles have two little boxes towards the bottom of the tube, one says
vegetarian and one says vegan. If they are suitable for those groups, there will be a tick in each box. |
