Default Your FDA Says: "No Problem With Benzene In Soft Drinks"

If the very politically- and fundamentalist-christian-connected
(Republican Party-controlled) Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says
something's safe, you can bet it means that 'something' is:

a) Safe for business investment, or

b) Unacceptable for birth control.

Yoou can take comfort in knowing that the FDA has no problem with a
little benzene in your Pepsi or 7Up.

FINDINGS
The Washington Post
Wednesday, March 29, 2006; Page A10

"FDA: No Concerns on Benzene in Soft Drinks"

No safety concerns have arisen from tests for the cancer-causing
chemical benzene in soft drinks, the Food and Drug Administration said
Tuesday, but it did not disclose its findings. The FDA started testing
soft drinks after a private study in November found small amounts of
benzene in some.

In the vast majority of drinks sampled, benzene was not found or was
present at levels below the federal limit for drinking water, it said.

"Although the results to date are preliminary, they do not suggest a
safety concern," Robert E. Brackett, director of the Center for Food
Safety and Applied Nutrition, wrote in a letter released Tuesday.

A "very, very few samples" had slightly elevated levels of benzene,
said Laura Tarantino, the agency's director of food additive safety.

The letter was a pointed retort to an environmental group that is
calling for benzene warnings on soft drinks.

The Environmental Working Group asked the FDA to warn the public about
soft drinks containing two ingredients that can form benzene. The
ingredients are ascorbic acid and benzoate preservatives, also known as
vitamin C and sodium or potassium benzoate.

Hey xian witling! Most federal employees don't work for the FDA;
doesn't that tell you anything? Godless Socialists are not Democrats,
nor are they the majority of what is generally referred to as "The
Left".

Do you not find the recent statement from the FDA inconsistent with
this quote, that I just now snatched from their website? But then, as
a moronic xian, you aren't qualified to judge, are you?

http://www.epa.gov/OGWDW/contaminant...s/benzene.html
"Why is Benzene being Regulated?

In 1974, Congress passed the Safe Drinking Water Act. This law
requires EPA to determine safe levels of chemicals in drinking water
which do or may cause health problems. These non-enforceable levels,
based solely on possible health risks and exposure, are called Maximum
Contaminant Level Goals.

The MCLG for benzene has been set at zero because EPA believes this
level of protection would not cause any of the health effects
described below.

Based on this MCLG, EPA has set an enforceable standard called a
Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL). MCLs are set as close to the MCLGs as
possible, considering the ability of public water systems to detect
and remove contaminants using suitable treatment technologies.

The MCL has been set at 5 parts per billion (ppb) because EPA
believes, given present technology and resources, this is the lowest
level to which water systems can reasonably be required to remove this
contaminant should it occur in drinking water.

These drinking water standards and the regulations for ensuring these
standards are met, are called National Primary Drinking Water
Regulations. All community water supplies must abide by these
regulations.

What are the Health Effects?

Short-term: EPA has found benzene to potentially cause the following
health effects when people are exposed to it at levels above the MCL
for relatively short periods of time: temporary nervous system
disorders, immune system depression, anemia.

Long-term: Benzene has the potential to cause the following effects
from a lifetime exposure at levels above the MCL: chromosome
aberrations, cancer."

I guess what you meant to say is that most FDA employees are not Federal
employees, but rather civilian employees of a Federal agency. You may be
right, but being the "moronic Xian" that I am I wouldn't be in a position
"judge". There are so many Federal agencies I would have to agree with what
you actually did say (i.e.. "most Federal employees do not work for the
FDA").

I don't know why you chose to call me a city in China (XIAN) the capital of
Shaanxi province. But I'll pout about that later off line.

I find it telling that you find it perfectly acceptable for the original
poster slipuvalad, which for all I know may be your alias, to write:

"If the very politically- and fundamentalist-christian-connected
(Republican Party-controlled) Food and Drug Administration (FDA)"

But I am vilified as, and I quote (1) "Xian witling!" (2) "a moronic Xian"
(3) "you aren't qualified to judge", for calling him the exact opposite of
what he called the people responsible for the tests. Let's see, that would
make you a hmmmm, I don't know maybe HYPOCRITE!

My reply was clearly not directed at the blood and guts of the post, but
rather at the way he chose to word his opening statement, which led me to
pay no further attention to what might have been an informative post. But of
course I'm not "qualified to judge".

In closing I respectfully say
F*** Off

I said what I intended to say, and the words I chose were appropriate

Well, I wouldn't vote for you as judge.

Hey, how about that, you actually _did_ understand the words. Now, if
only you could grasp the meaning.

This is very much the response small children use, before they gain

You most assuredly did _not_ call him the opposite of what he said.
Why don't you find yourself a dictionary? Hypocrite doesn't mean what
you apparently think it means. I called you what you are. Holding
superstitious views automatically puts you into the category of
"incapable of reason".

Liar. You reacted as you did, not because of the wording, but rather
because you take exception to his belief (well grounded) that the FDA
is controlled by the right-wings ****tards currently running this
country (into the ground).

: But of course I'm not "qualified to judge".

About the only thing you've gotten right.

: In closing I respectfully say
: F*** Off

It's spelled "**** Off", you fool.

It's moot anyway, as the people doing the tests aren't the
people setting policy, who are generally political appointees
(although they often have relevant experience). Probably
not many of them right now who are "socialists" or whatever.
