Some thoughts on longevity.
I'm fascinated by reading about
people who make it to age 100 or older. I'm also fascinated by all things botanical. That brings me to the following. I read a while back about a man over 100 who said he ate rhubarb every day. My great-grandmother lived to over 100 and she ate kasha (buckwheat) every day. Even in the nursing home, a friend brought some in to her every day. So here's what I'm wondering. Buckwheat and rhubarb are both in the same plant family. Maybe it will turn out that there is something very good about them, health-wise. If there is some benefit from this plant family, it should also be used with caution. Rhubarb leaves should never be eaten. With buckwheat, moderation is the key, since eating too much at once can give some people an itchy arm reaction that looks like some mosquito bites. I've both read about that and had it happen to me in the '80s when I cooked up a huge buckwheat stew and ate only that for a day and a half. -- SN http://www.scentednectar.com/veg/ A huge directory listing over 700 veg recipe sites.
