Vegan (alt.food.vegan) This newsgroup exists to share ideas and issues of concern among vegans. We are always happy to share our recipes- perhaps especially with omnivores who are simply curious- or even better, accomodating a vegan guest for a meal!

Soy Pea Mushroom Compote

Can of young sweet peas, drained.
Can of mushrooms, drained.
Soy sauce, to taste.
Hot pepper seeds, to taste.
Salt, to taste.

Canola oil, as needed for calories.

Chopped green onion, if desired.

Saltine crackers.

Mix peas, mushrooms, soy sauce and seeds in bowl. Let sit a minute or
two, to hydrate the seeds. Stir oil in as needed for calories. Garnish
with green onion if desired.

Eat with saltines and drink of choice.

One serving for someone 6'2" who looks crazy.

A nice cold easy-to-fix and very healthy vegetarian dish.

Cowpea Spread

Can of cowpeas (black-eyed peas), drained.
Soy sauce, to taste.
Canola oil, as desired for calories.
Garlic powder, to taste.
Salt, to taste.

Warm cowpeas in microwave to make them easy to macerate. Combine and
puree all ingredients.

A good sandwich-spread, topped with mustard (and perhaps green olives) or
with ground red pepper.

Use about an ounce per sandwich.

Devilled Cowpea Spread

Make the same as Cowpea Spread (above), but add a tablespoon of ground
red pepper before pureeing.
