Default list of vegan products

Brownberry seems to no longer make the dairy-free bread I buy. I went
looking for a new brand of bread and stumbled upon this list.
http://www.peta.org/accidentallyVegan/default.asp

I wonder if it is up to date. Companies so oftern change their products.
If Zagnut bars really are vegan, then there goes my waistline.

As for the bread. Yes I do have a bread machine but I don't like the machine
bread. The machine bread is too crummy and has a tough and inedible crust.
I used to bake (by hand) fresh bread weekly but do not have the luxury of
time anymore.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go buy a bag of Little Debbie cake
donuts. I'll be back when I wake up from the sugar coma.

yeah...i remember there being a big bru-ha-ha on the veganism board on
vegsource about that. apparently a good deal of the stuff on that peta list
isn't vegan at all, but it's 'almost vegan' enough for them to put it on
their list to try to suck in the everyday folk who don't want to give up
their sugar-coated corporate goodies : )

Hum, I have never had any trouble with hard, crummy bread from my bread
maker. Though, if it is a real problem for you, you can always use it
for the long part: kneeding the dough! Most breadmakers have a setting
to just prepare the dough for you, and not to cook it.

After that, put it in your oven and cook it yourself.

Well, I took the list to the grocery last night. Some of the items were not
available where I shopped or weren't vegan. Wonder Bread (I woudn't buy
that paste anyway) list Sodium Steroyl Lactalate but not the source.
The Kraft Creamy Italian Dressing wasn't in the store but there was another
Kraft Creamy something that looked promising but it wasn't on sale, I'll try
it when it is on sale.

Of the Little Debbie products available, not a one was even close to vegan
or dairy-free.

On the plus side, Brownberry Natural Wheat bread of the orginal Catherine
Clark recipe has magically reappeared at my local grocery. I had beeen told
(by one of the stock kids at the store) that it was no longer available. I
don't know if the store is clearing out product or if the bread is still in
production. I have an e-mail in to Brownberry.

I hear that that is the thing to do. I have a Zojirushi bread machine which
I hear is the best, but I'm probably very picky.
I started baking bread with my Mom before I could see over the counter top.
I took charge of the bread baking in High School because I was critical of
my Mom's work (she overworks the dough)
I'll accept a sub par store bought bread (as long as it isn't too sweet)
because I put out little effort but if I put any effort into something then
I compelled to make it perfect. I'm sure I'll be critical of machine mixed
bread. I don't even like to use my Kithcen Aid mixer with the dough hook to
mix dough, it makes the dough too tough.
I broke down and bought a Hodgeson Mills bread mix last night. I'll give it
a go in the machine.

A list like this comes in handy when you find yourself shopping at a
Sav-a-Lot in Dale Indiana.
