Vegan (alt.food.vegan) This newsgroup exists to share ideas and issues of concern among vegans. We are always happy to share our recipes- perhaps especially with omnivores who are simply curious- or even better, accomodating a vegan guest for a meal!

With a light touch?

Just to keep it a tad bit focused and not post the trolls.

Why? If that's what you want, there's no need to reinvent the wheel. Try
rec.food.veg.cooking.

Visit the above group and report back if you think the delay of 12 to 48 hours
is conducive to an interesting and flowing exchange of ideas. Also be aware that
spam and trolls occasionally make it past the moderators, and that the
moderators are not above editing some posts.

· Vegans contribute to the deaths of animals by their use
of wood and paper products, and roads and all types of
buildings, and by their own diet just as everyone else does.
What vegans try to avoid are products which provide life
(and death) for farm animals, but even then they would have
to avoid the following in order to be successful:

The meat industry provides life for the animals that it
slaughters, and the animals live and die in it as they do
in any other habitat. They also depend on it for their
lives like the animals in any other habitat. If people
consume animal products from animals they think are
raised in decent ways, they will be promoting life for
more such animals in the future.
From the life and death of a thousand pound grass raised
steer and whatever he happens to kill during his life, people
get over 500 pounds of human consumable meat. From a grass
raised dairy cow people get thousands of servings of dairy
products. Due to the influence of farm machinery, and *icides,
and in the case of rice the flooding and draining of fields,
one serving of soy or rice based product is likely to involve
more animal deaths than hundreds of servings derived from grass
raised cattle. Grass raised cattle products contribute to less
wildlife deaths, better wildlife habitat, and decent lives for
cattle. ·

Vegsource has some moderated discussion boards if you're interested.
http://www.vegsource.com

Or you can just set up a killfilter in your usenet reader to block
posters you don't like.

This would create a killfile overflow. There are just too much morons
and trolls in here and unfortunately people who keep responding to them.

Bob, I think it's a great idea...I'm all for a moderated group and have been
since I started posting here nearly 5 years ago...rec.food.vegan has a nice
ring to it :-). Would you be moderating or would there be a moderating team
like one of the other veg newsgroups has/had? (I don't know what currently goes
on in the other veg groups but in the past there was a moderating team) As
long there's a light touch, I don't have a problem with it.

Cheers,

Fritz/Stacey, whichever you prefer

Are you really this dense? Usual was telling you there *already* is a
moderated group. Get a clue.
rec.food.veg.cooking

Righhhhtttt. You mean as long as you don't have to hear the truth about
veganism you're alright with it.

The recipes and advice available on rec.food.veg.cooking are usually vegan.

One's "light touch" is another's censorship. With all the authoritarian vegans
who've posted here over the years, I'm sure y'all can have some very heated
arguments trying to figure out the difference. Should be quite entertaining for
the rest of us who wonder why you ninnies need a moderator to post recipes and
discuss food.

mr. falafel, the problem with vegsource is getting anyone to ever reply to
requests to get permission to join and post on the boards with all the
restrictions vegsource has placed on them. the only way you can apply is to
fill out the stupid form in the "contact us" section.

after several months of putting in requests to join the boards and no one
having even the common courtesy to e-mail me back and tell me to go to hell
& they're not granting my request, it's just not worth the time and hassle.

Iit is through exchange with critics that we most benefit by examining our
own beliefs and theirs. Moderated groups exist.

We also have vegan boards and are in big need of recipes.
Our boards are moderated
