Default POLL: fave party foods?

what's everyone's fave vegan stuff to make for parties? you know, dips &
little sandwiches & hors d'ouvres?

one of my faves that always goes over well (omni's love it, and they totally
can't tell it's non-dairy), is this awesome spinach dip, which i usually
make in a sourdough breadbowl. aside from the spinach, it is so not good
for you, but it's yummy as heck! it's another one from the vegsource.com
recipes database, i think. i always puree it a little, to get rid of some
of the bigger dried veggie chunks from the knorr soup mix.

Spinach Dip

1 box frozen chopped spinach, thawed
1 box Knorr vegetable soup mix
1 1/2 cups vegan sour cream
1 cup vegan mayonnaise
1 can water chestnuts, drained and finely chopped
1 loaf sourdough or pumpernickel bread

Thaw spinach, squeeze out excess water.
Mix ingredients well. [i usually puree it a little with one of those
hand-held whizzers, so you don't get bigger chunks of stuff]
Chill at least two hours.
Hollow out the loaf of bread to make a bowl.
Cube the removed part.
Serve dip in bread bowl,
with the reserved bread cubes for dipping.
Serve with additional bread cubes, crackers, veggie sticks, etc

It seems like you could get some vegan crackers and put peanut butter on
them. That would be pretty good.

Or get some tortilla chips and make a vegan avocado dip.

you know what's suprisingly good? you know those kavli 5-grain crackers?
if you use those to scoop up homemade guac, (i make it 1/2 avacado + 1 diced
tomato + squirt lime juice + s&p), it's really yummy, and way healthier than
chips. stumbled across it accidentally, since i'm allergic to corn and
needed an alternative to tortillas for my yummy guac. thought i'd be gross
since it's so grainy, but they go really well.

Thanks for the info! I'll have to try those crackers if I see them.

I've used triscuits to scoop up onion dip before.

Excellent topic! I hope you get a few more replies...

I like hummous, guacamole, baba ghanoush, salsa, mushroom caviare.
Mini versions of various veggie burgers and things.
Veggie sushi!

Shell asked for my baba ghanoush recipe.

Bake whole aubergine until softened and starting to collapse. Remove
to a bowl, cut a slit to speed cooling, and leave to cool. Trim off
stem end, then chop and whizz with a handblander [no need to peel].
Mix in garlic puree, tahini, and fresh lemon juice to taste.
