Default 2003 Raw Vegan Hall of Shame Awards

2003 shared some similarities with 2001, but in most ways was a
quiet year in the raw community. Two events stand out.

MOST UNDESERVED PUBLICITY Award goes to Juliano the raw chef, for
not quashing media reports that claimed actress Demi Moore's new
physique was due to her eating raw foods. Only later would it become
known in the press that Demi spent over $250K on plastic surgery to
achieve her new look.

2003's biggest story:
ANOTHER INFANT DIED WHEN TAKEN OFF MOTHER'S MILK AND PUT ON
A RAW VEGAN DIET. This tragedy took place in the Miami, Florida
area and is the 2nd tragedy like this in 3 years (in 2001 a
similar tragedy took place in Britain).

To make matters worse, the most active raw vegan pseudoscience
promoters (John Coleman and Lawrence "Laurie" Forti) continue to
this day to promote the false, dangerous, and potentially harmful
claim that sweet fruit is similar in nutritional composition to
human Mother's milk. (Ask a real nutritionist if milk and fruit
are nutritionally similar, and you will be told the claim is
ridiculous.) How many babies have to die before these arrogant,
hateful morons stop their false claims?

I hope you share my opinion that Coleman and Forti and everyone
else who has promoted similar false claims are at least partially
responsible for the deaths of these innocent children.

RAWFOODERS AS STEREOTYPE WEIRDOS?
As this goes to press, there is word that David Wolfe (the plagiarist
who stole Aterhov Hovannessian's book "Raw Eating" and reissued it
as "Nature's First Law," falsely claiming authorship) is part of
an upcoming reality TV show where he plays a weirdo character.
As the show won't be broadcast until 2004, that will have to wait
until the 2004 awards.

At the end of last year's awards, I wrote about how 2003 could be the
year the raw vegan community discovered integrity. Of course that
didn't happen, and only little has changed. One encouraging thing
did happen: Gabriel Cousens (a prominent raw advocate) finally
admitted what other nutritional experts have been saying for years:
that vegans, whether raw or cooked, should take B-12 supplements
to ensure a sufficient supply of this important nutrient.

Cousens's change of view has of course been attacked by natural
hygiene fanatics. But then natural hygiene is a stupid food cult that
babbles about "eternal health truths" and "purity" (talks about
food using openly religious terms). If Cousens can change for the
better and increase his integrity, then perhaps things can or
may improve in the wider raw community in 2004? We can all hope.
