Vegan (alt.food.vegan) This newsgroup exists to share ideas and issues of concern among vegans. We are always happy to share our recipes- perhaps especially with omnivores who are simply curious- or even better, accomodating a vegan guest for a meal! |

Hey everbody,
I'm new to this group and a new vegan. I was discouraged when I saw such hostile remarks being made towards each o= ther. I'm sure that's not the group as a whole, but I think that if you pos= ted more ideas, recipes, and helpful information rather than personal opini= ons everyone, including a beginner like me, would benefit much more. Anyway. I love that this resource is here either way. Does anyone know of something I can eat cereal with in the morning other th= an Silk or Soy Dream? I'm not having much luck and wasting my money when it comes to buying milk = alternatives. Thanks! Mikee. Powered by the E-mail PIM - Info Select - www.miclog.com |

If you're interested in good health, you should be offended that most of the recipes here involve lots of fat and/or lots of sugar. Most recipes here would indicate that the average "vegan" diet is every bit as unhealthy as sugar- and fat-laden diets containing meat and dairy. > Anyway. I love that this resource is here either way. Yeah, so do I. > Does anyone know of something I can eat cereal with in the morning other > than Silk or Soy Dream? If you want to have a bit of a sugar overload, try apple juice. Most soymilks also contain a lot of added sugar, so it's probably a wash. I don't have much of a sweet tooth, but I occasionally opt for oatmeal in the mornings. And not that "quick" stuff, I prefer as close to whole grain as possible. Boil it for a while and add a bit of your preferred sweetener (maple syrup works. Doesn't need anything else. > I'm not having much luck and wasting my money when it comes > to buying milk alternatives. If you still like the taste of real milk, try supporting humane organic dairymen. Their products deserve support from people who care about cows. By avoiding ALL dairy products, you're not contributing to any solution. Milk does have some benefits, particularly if it's low-fat or skim. |

At least you haven't made your racist attitudes personal like your obtuse little protege, Zakhar. > Promoting the consumption of milk on a vegan Newsgroup. No, I gave an alternative to someone who asked for one. In fact, I offered *several* alternatives which had nothing to do with milk or other animal ingredients. What useful purpose have you served lately, other than keeping the pubs busy? (Sorry, kerb crawling ain't exactly "useful.") > You really are a stupid troll. Not at all, but I'll still take it as a compliment coming from an drunken old sod like you. Funny that your goodwill is about as shortlived as your sobriety -- not that I was expecting it to last. |

Don't worry, we have resident mock-vegan trolls. You'll learn to spot them pretty quickly. > Anyway. There are LOADS of different non-dairy milks available, at least in the UK -- 'health food' shops tend to have a moderate selection, but the best selections are to be found in independant co-operatives (including fresh soy milk, which is my favourite kind of soy milk by far). My favourite milk-alike for cereal (and possibly in general) is actually oat-milk - it's not especially like cows-milk and it has a very mildly porridgey taste that's great for cereal. If you don't want a milk-alike, unsweetened fruit juice can be 'interestingly different', as can the syrup from canned fruit (that you can also add to your cereal). --Adam |

As long as you don't eat any animal parts, you don't care how many animals die for all this processed food stuff and canning? You guys really are just too precious for words. Well, there is one word, hypocrites.... > > --Adam |

There's nothing wrong with eating cereal dry and having a delicious drink alongside it to help wash it down either. Also consider having non-traditional foods for breakfast. Lately I've been having fun eating squash for breakfast. -Rubystars |
