In addition to the sales that Black Friday brings, the holiday has a history that is completely unrelated to the holiday. In 1869, a group of Wall Street financiers attempted to corner the nation's gold market. Jim Fisk and Jay Gould tried to pump up prices by dumping huge amounts of stock in the market, but President Ulysses S. Grant intervened and the prices crashed. This led to mass panic and bankruptcy for thousands of American consumers and ideas gifts for women in 2022.
