Default Restaurant Review (Forres)

I heard about Amoroma\ Taverna from a friend at work.He told me about a
guy that had opened a Roman restaurant/taverna in Forres. After spending
4 months in Italy a few years back,I deceided to take a visit there with
the missus to see if the food compared to what I had whilst in Italy.

On getting there (just behind the Clydesdale Bank in Forres) I must
admit to being a bit wary. The decor wasn't what I expected! Thinking
back to my times living in Italy when restaurants are judged on their
quality of food and not their decoration,we went inside.....

I started with the antipasto(mussles, garlic and bread) missus had the
fresh grilled sardines.Whatever concerns we had about the
building, quickly disappeared as we tasted the food!It was superb! The
owner is a really friendly guy who loves to chat!

We moved on to the main course (chicken liver pasta with Roman
sausage, rosemary, wine and bay leaf for me and a very credible Salami
pizza for missus.)Very good too I must say.Accompanied by mineral water
for me (damn that car) and a very good and full bodied red wine for
her.Wine is either red or white (as in nearly all 'proper' homegrown
Italian restaurants)but very much worth tasting.

Dessert proved to be a bit of an ordeal...Not because of the quality of
the food, but due to the excellent standard of it! We were offered 6/7
different choices, but I couldn't make up my mind! I ended up having an
expresso, but missus went for the gelati...

Overall? Don't be put off by the outside appearance of the place.Just go
and be assured that whatever you choose will be totally authentic Roman
food.

This place deserves to succeed..He also is holding proper (i.e no gas)
bbq's at the weekend. What could be better?

I must stress that I have no connection with the owner (except enjoying
a great meal there).The phone number for Amoroma is 01309 696920 /07796
926211.
