Cancun dining?
Will be in Cancun for only 4 nights. Seeking authentic, local food.
Or any "do not miss" place to dine. In the hotel zone or downtown please. Thank you in advance for suggestions. Remove "No Spam" from e-mail address before replying |

Downtown, La Habichuela (Margaritas 25 · Cancun, 998-884-3158) is superb by any standard. It's also pretty expensive. Many standard dishes, but also regional oddities -- like a dish made from a fungus that grows oin the corn plant. Excellent flambeed desserts. The one "don't miss" place in Cancun for foodies. There's also a very unpresuming restaurant right across the street from Carlos and Charlies, at (I think) Plaza Kukulkan, 7km, in the shopping center, which serves outstanding traditional Yucatan-style whole fish. Lorenzillo's, a little further down Kukulkan on the bay side, has *excellent* seafood, a hangs out over the bay. Beautiful at sunset! Savio's is southern Italian, possibly the best in Cancun, but not up to the standards of Italian in any large US city. I wouldn't recommend it. There is no really good Italian in Cancun (duh). There are a few great places right on the beach (literally, in the sand) on Isla Mujeres, too. Well worth the trip. Have a good time! -- Larry |
