Chocolate Chip Cake



1 cup dates (chopped/cut fine)

1 teaspoon of baking soda

1 cup of hot water

1 cup white sugar

1 cup butter or margarine

1 3/4 cup of all purpose flour

2 eggs

2 tablespoons of cocoa (or more if you like)

1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

1 cup of chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)

1/2 cup chopped nuts (I use pecans)



Add soda to dates and pour hot water over them, set aside. Cream

together butter and sugar, then combine together dates, flour, eggs,

cocoa and vanilla. Add 1/2 cup(or more) chocolate chips to cake

mixture. Place this mix into a greased and floured 9 x 13 pan.

Sprinkle the rest of chocolate chips and all of the nuts on top.



Bake all for 40 minutes at 350 degrees F. Makes about 12 servings.
