Chocolate Peppermint Sauce
 
Chocolate Peppermint Sauce:

1/4 cup butter (1/2 stick)
2 sqr (1 oz) unsweetened chocolate
1 1/3 cup granulated sugar
1/8 tsp salt
2/3 cup light cream or half-and-half
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup whipping cream, whipped
1/2 cup peppermint candy, coarsely chopped

Melt butter and chocolate in a heavy saucepan over low heat, stirring
occasionally. Remove from heat; stir in sugar and salt gradually, mixing
until well combined. (Mixture will be thick and dry). Gradually stir in
cream and vanilla. Return to heat. Cook over low heat until sugar is
dissolved, about 5 minutes. Cool. Stir in whipped cream and candy.

Refrigerate; serve cold over ice cream.
