Chocolate Fudge Cake

>My husband has requested a chocolate cake with chocolate icing for his
>birthday - nothing fancy this year, just a good, old-fashioned,

moist,rich
>chocolate cake. He seems to prefer icings that are rich but not overly
>sweet. Anyone have a tried and true recipe they can share? Thanks!

Chocolate Fudge Cake

3/4 cup butter or margarine
2-1/2 cups sugar
1-1/2 tsp. vanilla
3 eggs
3 1-oz. squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
3 cups cake flour
1-1/2 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. salt
1-1/2 cup ice water

Cream butter, sugar, and vanilla. Add eggs and beat until light and
fluffy. Blend in chocolate. Sift together dry ingredients and add
alternately with water to chocolate mixture. Pour into three greased
and floured layer pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes.

Cool and frost with:

4-1/2 cups powdered sugar
1/4 cup hot water
1 egg
3/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
6 1-oz. squares unsweetened chocolate, melted

Mix sugar and water. Beat in egg and butter. Add melted chocolate and
beat until creamy. Frosts top and sides of three layers.
