Cake: Chocolate Ultimate Page's

This recipe developed in Page's first job as a baker who wrote that
"This cake is the most rich and moist chocolate cake you will ever
eat."

Cocoa Mixtu
1/2 cup cocoa
1/2 cup water
1 cup light brown sugar
1/2 cup Crisco
1 cup light brown sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup buttermilk, sour or
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups cake flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup jellied cranberry sauce

Cocoa Mixtu Heat until smooth, and then cool
Blend Crisco, sugar, vanilla, salt, and egg. Add cool cocoa mixture
and cranberry sauce. Beat thoroughly. Add Sifted dry ingredients and
ilk alternately. Pour into two 9 inch round pans (greased and
floured). Bake 35 minutes at 350 degrees. Try it with Mocha Frosting

Frosting: Mocha Page's

1/2 cup shortening
2 teaspoons instant coffee
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 cups confectioners' sugar
1 egg
1/3 cup milk
1/2 cup cocoa

Blend shortening, egg, cocoa, coffee and salt. Add sugar alternately
with milk and vanilla. Beat until smooth. If frosting is too thick to
spread easily, beat in 1/2 teaspoon of milk at a time until good consistency
to spread on cool cake.
