Default Sri Lankan Shrimp

Sri Lankan Shrimp

2 1/2 peeled deveined shrimp
2 medium onions, chopped fine
2 tsps. garlic, finely chopped
1 tsp. ginger, finely chopped
1 green chili, finely chopped
1/2 tsp. turmeric powder
1/2 cumin powder
1 tsp. chili powder
1/4 tsp. paprika powder
1/4 tsp. garam masala powder
1 tsp. brown sugar
1/2 cup tomato puree
2 Tbsps. cooking oil

Heat oil in a pan. Add the chopped onions and saute till onions are light
brown. Add the chopped, ginger, garlic, chilies. Saute for a minute. Then
add the turmeric, chili, paprika, cumin powder. Stir. Add the washed
shrimp. Saute on high heat for about a minute or till the prawns turn
pink. Now add the tomato puree and let simmer on medium heat for 5 to 10
till the shrimp is cooked. The sauce should be slightly thick. Lastly add
the brown sugar and garam masala powder. Stir and remove from heat. Serve
immediately with rice or roties.
Serves 4.
